About the Directory
The Internet Directory of NGOs in the Lao PDR (the "Directory") is a comprehensive on-line portal that seeks to facilitate the dissimenation of information about international organizations working in the Lao PDR in the field of development, their projects and activities, with the objectives of: (a) helping interested users gain quick and free access to such information; (b) assisting NGOs and local government authorities in their decision-making processes through providing up-to-date information on development projects and activities in the Lao PDR; and (c) facilitating further coordination of efforts and exchange of information between INGO community members to help Lao PDR achieve sustainable development and reduce poverty.
The idea of the Directory has been initiated by Consortium in the Lao PDR and Quaker Service in Laos and quickly gained wide support from the rest of NGO community in Laos. Its initial development was funded by a small grant from World Bank.
Following a tender process, Sabai-dee.com, a Laos-based Web Development and IT company, commenced a contract in October 2003 tasked with the design, build, implementation and initial updating of the Directory and its website. Furthermore, it has also been entrusted with management and maintenance of the Directory and its website for an initial period of 5 years.
