In March, 2005 I started Digital Freebies to occupy myself while I huddled in my basement, an under-employed web designer. I was fascinated with digital scrapbooking, dare I say obsessed, and wanted a site for people to gather and get freebies. I wanted a place for those just starting out in the world of digital scrapbooking.
Uploading and downloading files, particularly free ones, requires bandwidth. And boy, did I have bandwidth! I owned my own server and with my husband's help got the site up and running. I was amazed at the response! My husband was amazed at the sheer volume of file transfer. It was impressive.
The mailing list grew daily - it still does - and the designers enjoyed offering samples of their designs without the expense of the bandwidth.
