My name is Anita Shuler DeLong and my interest in clay was sparked by a summer workshop I attended while in high school. Later I attended Oregon State University, California College of Arts and Crafts and received my Bachelor of Science from Portland State University. My background in traditional techniques has given me a solid foundation on which to base my own work.
The hand-built pieces featured here are both functional and decorative. Surface design has always been a characteristic of my work, which keeps evolving through explorations.
Since moving to the Okanagan fourteen years ago, the influence of the area has surfaced in my motifs. You can see this in the color, texture, and patterns interpreted and transformed through my imagination. You'll also notice that I like to experiment with figures -- like the knobs on my jars and the relief of the Garden Plaques. In the end my goal is to create a functional piece that is pleasing to the eye. I hope you enjoy using these items, as well as showing them off to your family and friends!
