ARES/RACES_of_Delaware_County
Description
ARES/RACES of Delaware County is an all-volunteer force of licensed, trained Amateur Radio operators who offer their skills and equipment for use during times of disaster or emergency. ARDC has been assigned US callsign W3AEC.
Working with colleagues in Chester, Montgomery and Philadelphia counties, ARDC can provide critical communications capability when public service or commercial systems fail--as they did in the aftermath of the September 11 terrorist attacks on the United States.
The Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) operates under the auspices of the American Radio Relay League and was first organized in 1935 as the Amateur Radio Emergency Corps. Since then, ARES has become a vital member of the Nation's emergency response efforts. In 2003, the Department of Homeland Security recognized ARES as a vital component of the new Citizen Corps. Since then, numerous other governmental agencies have renewed their relationships with ARES.
