In these notes from the book DARK VICTORY, by David Marr and Marian Wilkinson, Robin Rothfield has extracted some of the more blatant examples of abuse committed by the Howard Government in the period since the arrival of The Tampa in Australian waters in August 2001. It was this book which provided the inspiration for the Defeat Howard Campaign. (See also "Review of DARK VICTORY" in the Government Integrity section.)
This report of the speech by prominent Liberal MP Petro Georgiou, reported in the Melbourne Age on 29-8-2001 attacks the Howard Government's policy on asylum seekers. Of special note is the following:
"Mr Georgiou said Jews fleeing Nazi Germany would have been denied entry into Australia under the Howard Government's tighter rules on asylum seekers.
