Description

The Development Corporation of Belton (DCB) was formed in 1990 by a vote of the citizens of Belton upon an initiative developed by the Belton City Council.

The DCB's established mission is to enhance the economy of Belton by helping primary industry expand or locate into the community, thereby creating new job opportunities for Belton residents. The DCB has met success toward this goal in each year of its existence by assisting local industry in their expansion plans, developing the Belton Business Park and by constructing speculative industrial buildings for sale or lease to locating companies. Acceptable projects for the DCB are governed by State Law for 4A Corporations and by the policies established by both he Board and the Belton City Council. The Corporation is governed by five business leaders from the community, each appointed to two-year terms by the Belton City Council. Current board members include President Brad Crye; Vice President M.H. Cowan; Secretary/Treasurer Griff Lord; and members Bill Holmes and Andy Crowson. The DCB is supported by a staff consisting of an executive director and executive assistant. Board meetings are held monthly at DCB offices located at 412 E. Central. Agendas for the meetings are posted at the Belton City Hall a minimum of 72 hours prior to each meeting and may be downloaded here.

Funding for corporation activities are generated through a 1/2-cent sales tax approved by the voters when the Corporation was founded in 1990. Additional funds are garnered from the sale and lease of DCB-owned properties. The Corporation's annual budget is developed by the Board of Directors, then reviewed and approved by the Belton City Council.
