- This summer I'm dedicating my front page to Delta Air Lines. Delta was the first airline to start DC-8 Service in 1959 and operated a large number & different types of DC-8s. Among Delta's DC-8 Fleet were the DC-8-11/12, -32/33, -51, -61 & -71. Not only has Delta been a loyal operator of Douglas Jets they have also been loyal to their employees throughout the years - nearly always offering the highest pay and benefits in the industry. Having worked for Delta I can attest to their what a great airline they have been to work for. Unfortunately, during the last several years (since 9/11) Delta & it's employees have suffered many hardships but these dedicated employees (starting right from the top with Jerry Grinstein - who was instrumental in saving Western Airlines in the 1980s) are turning the company around to assure that Delta & it's proud heritage will live on. As a matter of fact, today, May 31, 2006, the Delta Pilots ratified their new contract & the bankruptcy judge approved it so Delta is now firmly on their path to recovery.
