This website is the true life story of Dawn-Marie Burroughs, who was abused and neglected by her biological parents, Susan West and Dwight West. During the telling of her story, no where does Dawn refer to Susan and Dwight as "Mom" or "Dad," only by their given names.
Her story of full of memories of various activities--being left in the car while Sue was in the bar with a friend, being beaten by Dwight while Sue watched, being molested by friends of Sue and Dwight's, being called a "whore" by Sue, and even being forced to join the army.
Dawn-Marie's life and detail is one of hope, survival and encouragement. Most people wouldn't think some of the things that happened to Dawn-Marie could ever happen (throwing a glass plate at your 9-year-old daughter because she didn't cook dinner well enough?), but she shares her story so that others can see the devastating effects of child abuse and what so many are willing to "sweep under the rug." Despite the abuse and neglect that Dawn-Marie suffered as a child, she has grown into an amazing person, no thanks to her parents.
The story is updated with e-mails she received from her biological brother, Dwight West Jr. (referred to as Dwight Jr.) in 2006.
