Cynthia's style is greatly influenced by impressionists such as Manet, Degas, Van Gogh and Cassatt and inspired by her European travels and museum visits. Although primarily self-taught, she studied oil painting through Memorial University Extension Services under well known artist Sid Butt. The little fishing villages of Newfoundland and St. John's architecture are two of her favourite subjects. Capturing the atmosphere and mood of a scene is of utmost importance to her. She also takes great pride in portraying the details and colours of the unique downtown St. John's streets and its numerous heritage homes.
