Description
About the Civil War Bullet
Welcome to The Civil War Bullet. This the home of the Civil War Bullet Collecting Community. The Civil War Bullet is a group of Civil War relic collectors and enthusiasts who collect ammunition, militaria and relics and enjoy discussing and educating other about them. Many of our members have been selling, hunting, and collecting bullets and relics for many decades. We not only discuss and collect relics. Also, we also research history behind the bullets and relics we collect. Some of our members have been published in magazines and have written books.
We are a group of antique ammunition, bullet, cartridge, and relic collectors who have come together to develop an online community, newsletter, and e-zine for others to learn about our hobby and the history of small arms ammunition. We do center on small arms ammuntions, but we also discuss other relics.
During the US Civil War and 1800's, accoutrements and bullet design and development wa sin its renaissance. There were many tangents of developement and some of the designs bordered on artwork. The American Civil War and 19th Century saw many innovations in the weapons and ammunition they fired. The guns of the period changed from inaccurate smooth bore muskets to the dead on accurate rifled muskets. The cartridge changed from the paper cartridge containing a round musket ball (round bullet) or oligoconical miniè ball, or minie ball as it is often misspelled, to the entirely self-contained metal cartridge similar to modern cartridges. These innovations, with the broad variety of weapons brought from home, lead to a wide variety of cartridges and bullets being used and therefore many different types of antique ammunition to collect.
