About Us
Yes, the Sisters of St. Joseph of Medaille are a religious community, one of 23 congregations of Sisters of St. Joseph in the United States. What many people don't realize is that we are very much people of the larger community, too.
The days of convent- or school-based congregations ended decades ago for us. We do live together and support each other's ministries, but our lives are spent among the people, especially the needy. We may have one eye on Heaven, but the other's right here on Earth and unwavering.
If you were ever to spend time with us, you might be surprised to see that we laugh and cry, drink coffee, wear fuzzy slippers and discuss the relative evils of triple chocolate chip ice cream like any other human being -- emphasis on human. We focus on our mission, but we never lose sight of ourselves as real people in a real world.
