Crusaid directs money, knowledge and support to poor and marginalised people and communities affected by HIV and AIDS in the way that best meets their needs and helps them achieve a decent quality of life.
About Crusaid
Crusaid was set up in 1986 by a small group of friends in response to the distress and tragedy that was happening around the time that Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) first appeared in the 1980s. The number of people who were dying of AIDS-related illnesses at the time was rapidly rising and Crusaid started to fund projects such as in-patient hospital wards and helping with funeral expenses.
20 years on, extraordinary progress has been made in treating the virus, but the epidemic is still on the rise. Crusaid is now funding prevention and education projects, supporting outpatient clinics, and back-to-work projects as well as those that support and care for people living with HIV and AIDS in the UK and overseas. Not to mention the essential research projects into new treatments, the search for a vaccine and ultimately a cure.
