Description
My name is Jeff Birmingham, and I built this site in April of 2005. I had a collection of old photos from a contract working aboard Royal Caribbean's "Legend of the Seas", and a couple of friends of mine were talking a few years back in Vancouver about how crew members from cruise ships needed a better way to keep in touch with each other. We passed around the idea of a online crew forum, and I went away inspired by that conversation (and more than a bit drunk).
In 2005, I learned about a CMS (Content Management System) called PHP-Fusion, and it became clear to me that sites like what we were talking about that night in Vancouver were actually possible to build without a computer science degree.
In a weekend, I had built the basic form of what you see today. It's taken time to learn about what the site is capable of, but I never thought it would really go beyond a neat little website project I did one weekend. I told a few people about it, and kept checking to see if anyone would find it. Lots of people did...
