History

Two theories about the naming of this feature exist: One supports that the name is derived from the original local Sioux name for this summit, which translates to "the hill where the Crows were killed". A fierce battle between the Crow and Sioux Indians occurred here. Another theory purports that a prospector known as "California Joe" named the summit "Joe's Peak" and was later changed to "Crow Peak". (SD-T17/p394)
