CrossingAfrika is an organized volunteer effort. We work with established 501 C 3 organizations to accomplish our charitable mission. No volunteers from Crossing Afrika receive any compensation for their efforts. All time, materials and services are donated.
Dr. Pilon has practiced medicine since graduating from Marquette Medical School (now Medical College of Wisconsin) in 1967. Dr. Pilon is an orthopaedic surgeon who has been traveling to third world countries since 1982. As a volunteer for Health Volunteers Overseas, Dr. Pilon has made 5 trips to Africa since 1998. His trips have lasted from one month to one year. Dr. Pilon lives in Sherwood, Wisconsin with his wife Stephanie and has nine children.
Pat Wittman has been involved in all previous 5 missions to Bugando Medical Center in some fashion. As a Surgical Tech, she has assisted with not only the equipment inventory and donation coordination, but also in the operating room at the Bugando Medical Center. She lives with her husband George in Hilbert, Wisconsin.
