Over the next two pages you can learn a little about CrisisShield and Grenada. The more formal aspects of CrisisShield are covered under About CrisisShield, whereas below is a brief, informal history of our organisation.
CrisisShield grew out of the tremendous response to Hurricane Ivan by the various communities in Grenada and abroad. By pulling together and working with our neighbouring islands; food, water and medical supplies were rushed to the island. Of particular importance was support to Grenada's hospitals which were stretched to breaking point.
As the acute phase of the crisis receded so did the need for food and water. However, the long-term impact of Hurricane Ivan became apparent. Some of the volunteers who had been at the core of the initial response formed CrisisShield to put in place a structure that could support Grenada through the coming months and years. CrisisShield is still the only voluntary organisation focusing solely on replacing the damaged housing stock.
