United Credit Union
Description
United Credit Union was formed in 1938 by the Post Office Union and was originally known as the Post Office Investment Society until 1994 when it's name was changed to Union Care Credit Union. The name was changed again to United in August 2003. We have been assisting Union members with their financial needs for over 60 years. During this time United Credit Union has developed into a very stable Credit Union with around 12,000 members. The co-operative nature of the organisation enables us to collectively help each other with financial assistance.
The Credit Union is administered by a Board of Management who must be members. An election is held every year for two Board Members. The total Board consists of six members. Individual members therefore have a direct say in who they want on the Board every year. The National Office is situated in Wellington. United Credit Union is a member of the New Zealand Association of Credit Unions.
Credit Unions are NOT profit driven. Whilst they obviously must operate profitably, they are owned by the members, and therefore there are no overseas owners or corporate investors to account to.
