Title
Great family day out at Crealy Adventure Theme Parks UK
Description
History
Crealy Adventure Park was established in 1989 by Angela Wright, MBE and and her family. Angela was raised at Hayes Barton in East Budleigh, the birthplace of Sir Walter Raleigh. This provided Angela with an extremely fortunate childhood, and was the inspiration for Crealy Adventure Park. When Angela was a child she had the run of the farm and Woodbury Common, and she also had lots of pets and was able to help out on the farm. She grew up with an understanding and respect for animals and farming, and also with a strong sense of the importance of adventurous play. In addition to this, as the birthplace of Sir Walter Raleigh her house used to be opened to the public, and so Angela was used to sharing her home and heritage with visitors.
Angela wanted to build a park that was a recreation of a country childhood. She wanted people to be able to come to Crealy and play in the Adventure Playgrounds, hold and feed the animals, ride the ponies and learn about farming. Consequently Crealy was born.
Angela carried out the initial research and planning for the park from 1987 until its opening two years later. Visitor numbers in the first year were on target at 40,000. The Park now receives in the region of half a million visitors per annum, (63% of whom are local residents), and is the favorite Family Attraction in the Westcountry.
