, on December, 1958. A few years later, the Costa Rica Country Club was able to organize a similar tournament with the cooperation of the Costa Rica Tennis Federation, local authorities, and private enterprise.
The task of organizing this Tournament, large for a small country like COSTA RICA , has been possible thanks to the unselfish collaboration since 1965 of many persons, too numerous to mention by name, in the organizing and administrative aspects; our sponsors, the local business community; the national media, radio, television, and the press; and the Costa Rica Country Club.
The first edition of the "Coffee Bowl" was held in 1965. The tournament has featured throughout the years such outstanding players as Bjorn Borg, Ivan Lendl , Guillermo Vilas, Manuel Orantes , Brian Gottfried, Dick Stockton, Keven Curren , Victor Pecci , Erik Van Dillen , Tomas Smid , John Alexander, Jose Higueras , Harold Solomon, Tommy Haas, Mariano Puerta , Jiri Novac , Nicolas Massu , Arnaud Di Pasquale, Wayne Ferreira, Jana Novotna , Andrea Helikova , Sandra Wasserman, Anke Huber, M. Mroz , Amanda Coetzer , and many other leading players.
