Description
The Coolidge Corner Theatre, one of Brookline’s treasured landmarks, is a fully-restored Art Deco movie palace. Showing movies the way they were meant to be seen since 1933, the Coolidge offers comfort, beauty and the chance to experience the best film and video programming around - from hot independents to classic revivals, to extraordinary selections of world cinema.
As a not-for-profit arts institution, the Coolidge features first run arthouse films, including independent films, international cinema, and documentaries. We also do frequent revival series of cinema classics, midnite movies, and family and senior film programs. The Coolidge also brings area residents important cultural events, including film festivals (the Boston Jewish Film Festival, the Human Rights Watch Film Festival, the Boston International Festival of Women's Cinema) and collaborations with cultural partners like WGBH, Brookline High School, and the Boston Psychoanalytic Society.
One of the last remaining original big screens in the country, our giant main theatre seats 600 with classic elegance and cinematic style, as well as a recessed theatrical stage. Our recently renovated upstairs theatre features stadium seating for up to 250 and includes a live performance stage which is host to our Kids Variety Show, frequent musical performances, and film discussion panels. Our newest theatre is the 45 seat Screening Room, a perfectly-designed intimate video space which features documentaries straight from the top film festivals, as well as the work of local and emerging filmmakers. The Screening Room is also available to rental for special occasions and parties.
