Description
We have been involved in creating online Community Information Networks since 1999 when we set up the Manor & Castle Community Information Network (MACCIN) in Sheffield. This involved placing 50 internet-ready computers in various access points across the Manor, Castle and surrounding areas.
This led on to the setting up of the Sheffield Community Information project, a partnership between Sheffield University, Sheffield Libraries and Mediac Multimedia Company. In the 3 year duration of the project we helped well over 300 organisations and businesses achieve an internet presence.
Funding has now been secured through Objective One Priority Four to expand our services throughout South Yorkshire. Initially, this means setting up 'umberella' sites for local communities where all local information can be retrieved. Local businesses and community/voluntary organisations can expand on this by having their very own web site created which can then be linked to the main site. All of our services are free to groups within these areas.
