Computers & Music began its 26 year retail run on Junipero Serra Blvd in Daly City California in 1982. San Francisco store relocations from the late 1980's included the Yerba Buena and Inner Richmond neighborhoods.
Seminal in the world of computer-based music stores, Computers & Music was a great resource for cutting edge product and information for musicians, composers, performers, sound designers, and educators. The pre-web Computers & Music Quarterly Report & Catalog won an industry award from NAMM (National Association of Music Merchandisers). Satisfied, repeat clientele, worldwide, ranged from major universities, recording artists, and media concerns to legions of home-based musicians.
Computers & Music's founder, owner, straight-shooting driving force, and all-around good guy was Joe West.
