Description
Community Shares is a collaboration of 36 progressive non-profits working for real change. Shares provides an easy, effective way for people, through gifts at work, to support the social justice missions of our members. Created in 1985 by 13 grassroots community-based advocacy organizations, Community Shares' mission is to support social justice organizations through workplace giving programs and other philanthropic initiatives.
Community Shares is Cleveland's only workplace giving federation with a focus on social justice and the second largest such fund in the country. We generate essential operating funds for non-profit organizations that are working for positive community change.
Our member organizations address the root causes of social problems facing our neighborhoods, our community, and our region. They provide education, promote health care, protect children and women, advance home ownership, provide job training and employment, build neighborhoods, and work to end discrimination. Community Shares' philosophy of change is based on the power of participation -- the power of individuals to shape change.
Currently, over 150 area employers include Community Shares in their annual workplace charitable campaigns. These companies have recognized that expanding employee choice is an easy and effective way to express to their employees, and the community, that they support a sense of corporate responsibility and social and civic involvement.
As a member based organization, we keep administrative costs to a minimum, making every contribution more responsive to community needs. We are governed by a Board of Directors that includes representatives from member organizations and the community at large who collectively keep us focused on our mission.
