IRC/October2007.1
IRC Chatters
What
- Providing help to the community by answering/handling queries and complaints on the #AboutUs IRC channel
Why this is important
- Community service
- Part of AboutUs Help
We are done when
- We have answered/handled all queries and complaints on IRC from 1-15 October 2007, with the intention of building relationships with the folks asking questions.
- One important task that should be done is logging chats with WebUsers and posting them on a seperate page made specifically to host the logs (if posting logs is easiest, great - otherwise, just summaries - maybe just named with the date and person answering.
- I've removed Asad's link to the log because we're sticking with the log given below. - Umair Tamim 01:31, 4 October 2007 (PDT)
Plan for the next two weeks
- We can make good use of the 12 hour difference of working hours between our offices and make sure that few people from the community team are always on IRC channel for community service.
- As a learning exercise for everyone participating, I think it'd be a good idea to create logs of important questions that were raised by WebUsers and how they were dealt with. For the current iteration, the log is called IRC/October2007.1/Log.
Discussion
- OpenRoad.TV wanted to nominate for feature, but couldn't find "discussion" section - nice conversation TedErnst | talk 07:13, 17 September 2007 (PDT)
- Inquirer (IRC name) had problems with the use of the WHOIS information. We talked about the legal side andn it ended sort of with "What you may LEGALLY do does not mean that you are moral or ethical in your approach.". --Simon | talk 10:09, 2 October 2007 (PDT)
organization of this page
Things are a bit confusing. We have bits of conversation in two different places on this page, and then links to the log. Umair, what would you like us to do here? Thanks! TedErnst | talk 09:26, 3 October 2007 (PDT)
- Hmm ... you're right. It is confusing. Well my idea is that we start logging from this month onwards and leave whatever has already been done. At the moment I've simply given a link to the log page but in the future, my plan is to make a complete list of logs; something like what's been done with the WelcomingPeople page (i.e. there's a different page of logs for every month).
- Also, something that might improve the learning process is giving subjects to each individual log. That way we might be able to arrange the logs according to subjects so if someone wants to know how a question asked previously was dealt with, they could look into the relevant subject and see the conversations that took place.
- Bottomline, however, is that I've removed the link to Asad's conversation but am going to leave the discussion you and Simon wrote. - Umair Tamim 01:28, 4 October 2007 (PDT)
