Colorado Wind Ensemble - Home
Description
The Colorado Wind Ensemble was founded in January of 1983 with the purpose of providing the community an opportunity to hear compositions for winds and percussion not generally available in other settings and to provide a means for musicians to play in an environment beyond the college level.
The CWE is a balanced ensemble of 40 woodwind, brass, and percussion players. We perform a season of seven concerts: Five formal concerts, two outdoor concerts, and one chamber concert for solo or small ensemble pieces. Each of members volunteer their skills and approximately 110 hours of time to the ensemble per season for rehearsals and concerts.
The CWE is unique in terms of its classically oriented programming. We have initiated collaborations with many local performing groups, including the Cherry Creek Chorale, David Taylor Dance Theater, and the Denver Brass. We also feature guest soloists from the Colorado Symphony Orchestra and prominent faculty members from area music colleges. The CWE has been a featured ensemble at the Chama Valley Music Festival, the Colorado Music Educator's Association convention, Hudson Garden's 4th of July celebration, and a summer festival in Avon, Colorado.
