About Coach Jerry
My name is Jerry Norton. I am 71 years old, a graduate of Columbia University and a retired aerospace engineer. I now enjoy my retirement covering youth sports for the community newspaper. Over the years, I have coached baseball, football, softball, tennis and swimming and have conducted tennis clinics for Special Olympic, wheelchair and handicapped tennis players. I am the commissioner of a 650 player NFL Flag football program, coach an eight year-old Pop Warner football team and supervise our NFL Junior Development Program. I serve on the board of the local YMCA and the local youth athletic association and have been recognized by the Town of Huntington, NY, the Jacksonville Beach Junior Chamber of Commerce and the Ponte Vedra Rotary Club for service to youth. I am married and have three grown sons.
The big guy on the right is All-Pro Offensive lineman Tony Boselli of the NFL's Jacksonville Jaguars. This picture was taken on the night we both received the Local Hero Award from the Ponte Vedra Rotary Club.
Here's a sneak peek at one of the illustrations in my book. When I was first putting this book together, I had asked Chester Villar to draw a cartoon of a coach talking to a kid "on his level" (it's just one of the many tips in the book). Who knew he would make that coach have a resemblance to me? Thanks Chester!
