In 1970, a talented young mechanic named Fred Perry sold his half of a small business partnership, loaded the family up in a CJ5 Jeep, and drove from Clemson South Carolina to the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. Fred thought he might like to live and work there, but soon found out that the Colorado Rockies were for playing, not working. A month after leaving South Carolina, Fred was back, vowing to visit Colorado every year for Jeeping in the mountains.
