Since the beginning of the Internet, it has been a whole new world of freedom. Freedom of thought, freedom of expression, freedom of information exchange. Unfortunately, this freedom has also bred literally millions of sites devoted to free exchange of pornography, posting of adult stories, avocation of illegal substances, and easy access to innumerable perversions not suitable to list here.

Even after five years battling these evils with Internet filtering, I still cringe when I hear about some of the newest sites and sexual derision that is so readily available on the Internet. It's as if every time good begins to prevail, evil raises the bar.

"But I'm an honest person, and I think I've raised my children to know better. Why do I need filtering?" The Bible says, "The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?" (Jer. 17:9) Truly, it is difficult to know even our own hearts, much less the hearts of our loved ones. The Bible also warns us to "set no wicked thing before [our] eyes" (Ps. 101:3). The smallest seed of lust, such as a luring unsolicited email may hit you at your weakest moment. The next time it will be easier to actually look for one of these sites (unfortunately they are not hard to find without filtering in place). Before you know it, your resistance to these temptations will be broken down, and you will find yourself anticipating, sneaking and concealing these online jaunts.
