City Lights Public Charter School
Description
City Lights Public Charter School (PCS) is the only special education high school in Washington, DC. We provide a high school education, career exploration and transition services to adolescents, ages 14 to 22, with emotional and behavioral disabilities including some with court involvement.
City Lights PCS has full accreditation from the Middle States Association Commission on Secondary Schools. In addition to academics and career information, City Lights PCS focuses on the therapeutic needs of our students and their families, in the tradition of our predecessor, City Lights School.
In 1982, City Lights School was founded under the auspices of the Children’s Defense Fund as a psycho-educational day treatment program for adolescents who could not return to traditional public schools within the DC school system. The mission of City Lights School was to educate and to provide effective therapeutic programs for emotionally disturbed high school aged students and to have each student ready academically, emotionally, vocationally and socially to succeed in school and in adult life.
