1919 Georges N. Haddad, the pioneer of cinema in Lebanon, builds his first cinema in Beirut, in Bourj (Place des Canons), and calls it the Cosmograph. Shortly thereafter, he joins forces with Nicolas Cattan thus forming Cattan & Haddad, an association that lasted 37 glorious years.
1926 Cattan & Haddad begin a campaign of growth and open cinemas across Lebanon and Syria, namely Empire cinema on the popular Rue Gouraud in Beirut, which takes on a major face-lifting operation five years later and reopens its doors with a capacity of over 1,200 seats and two balconies.
