The styles we produce have changed dramatically since the pottery was established in 1957, we still produce pieces for sets that were sold in the 60s and are often asked to do so.
James Elliott is our in-house designer and has recently produced an exciting new range developed from original drawings and called The Country Gentlemen, there are 10 in the series at present, the latest arriving a few days before Christmas 1999. The range is based on English country animals. At present we have Sir Freddy Fox, Lord William Badger, Walter Rat, Oscar Otter, Terence Toad, Maurice Mole, Oliver Owl, Harry Hedgehog, Cyril Squirrel and Hugo Hare. There are plans for these to be joined by two further gentlemen followed by female companions. Modelled in relief, these are entirely hand painted with the artist giving each animal its own character and identity. On completion, each animal is signed by the artist. Because of the labour intensive nature of our product this automatically limits the number produced, each animal takes over one hour to paint!
There are already a keen band of collectors who await the birth of each new animal and interest in them is growing daily. With this in mind, the Monastery Collector's Club has been formed with a host of benefits for future members.
