Title

Cherokee Bottled Water - Cherokee, North Carolina

Description

Cherokee Bottled Water was created during the summer of 1998 in response to a proposal from an outside company that would create a "Cherokee" label using a foreign source for the water. Because the water that flows through the Cherokee reservation is of exceptionally high quality, the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians decided to create this brand using their water.

The source of the water is the Oconoluftee River, which flows from the Great Smokey Mountains National Park. We capture the water one-quarter mile from the entrance of the park. The water is then treated and filtered to remove all chemicals included in the treatment process. The water is exposed to ultraviolet light and then loaded aboard tankers for the trip to the contract bottler in South Carolina. During the bottling process, the water is ozonated five times. This is an extra step we take to ensure the water is of the highest quality.

One aspect in which we take great pride is that Cherokee Bottled Water meets all the requirements of the Safe Drinking Water Act as administered by the Environmental Protection Agency. The Food and Drug Administration regulates all bottled waters, but because our water comes from a community source it is subject to the regulations of the EPA, which are much stricter than those of the FDA.
