Chemainus brims with artistic spirit. It started in 1982, when the people of Chemainus invited internationally known artists to use the Town as a canvas.
Today, 37 murals and 13 statues depict the town's history, people and future. It's the world's largest outdoor gallery, and each year new artwork is added. Follow the yellow footprints for a self-guided tour of Chemainus' colorful past, or take a tour via horse drawn carriage or simulated steam train. Gift shops and art galleries abound, offering some of the Island's best pottery and native and local artworks. Peruse the antique shops for a one of a kind treasure. Take a break from your browsing in one of the numerous open air cappuccino bars and restaurants - but be sure to save room for a trip to one of the many inviting ice cream parlors. Don't miss the renowned Chemainus Theatre, beloved by locals and visitors alike.
An award winning neo-classical building houses the 274 seat theatre and Playbill Dining Room, where professional stage productions, musicals, concerts and first class dining are offered year round.
