Description
Before there was Chattanooga Online, hobbyists used to connect to remote computer systems called BBSs (Bulletin Board Systems). BBSs allowed multiple home computer enthusiasts to connect to a single computer and share information, files and even chat. Although there are no pictures of the original BBS that eventually became Chattanooga Online, the image above shows what BBSs used to look like.

Higher Technology Services (HTS) was founded by Debra Brown, and former partners, in 1989. Originally focused on providing clinical engineering services to hospitals, developing custom software applications. Evolving over time, HTS sold the biomedical division in 1993, while HTS focused on computer software and networking technology. Debra Brown purchased sole ownership of HTS/Chattanooga Online.
