Title
Association of Charity Shops, supporting charity retail.
Description
ABOUT US
Formed in 1999, we are the only, member organisation, dedicated to supporting charities which run shops as part of their fundraising activities. By pooling expertise and joining forces promote to common interests, we help members to operate their shops as effectively as possible. Members range from the largest national charities to locally based hospices and run between them over 6,300 shops. In 2006, the Association is inviting charities who are not currently running shops, but who are interested in learning more about the Charity Retail sector to become members. You can click to see the full list of our member charities here. Click on the following links to find out more about the Association:
In 2005 the Association launched the Code of Charity Retailing. As a positive and productive response to the growing need for self-regulation of the sector, the Code of Charity Retailing will raise the profile and reputation of charity shops nationwide, bringing greater public confidence in and support for the sector.
We seek to represent our members’ views to government and policy makers to find the best solutions to issues affecting the sector, leading to greater profits and improved fundraising. Amongst key issues we have made recent representations on are the Charities Bills, regulations on house to house collections, the payment of recycling and reuse credits, possible taxes on plastic bags and the level of waste charges falling on the sector. As part of ensuring our effectiveness we monitor closely all UK and EU policy and legislative changes and work with partner organisations as appropriate.
