I didn’t know that I was looking for Mary. All I knew is that my experiences with love had been disappointing. I was looking for something that would transform me, raise me up, and allow me to feel whole. I was still unclear about the idea of forgiveness. Everyone I knew and everything that I had experienced had left me feeling that love was simply a concept, something fragile and evanescent, not our legacy, not mine to have. I don’t know what made her come into my life that day.
