When we purchased Baker Memorials in 1975 all artwork was hand drawn, and the lettering was cut using lettering dies when not cut by hand. We were always looking for ways to become more versatile with lettering and designs, and to provide our customers with a more professional sketch when creating a design for their approval.
Even though we became fairly proficient at providing sketches, the renderings were never quite as professional as we would have liked them to be. Fortunately, CAD systems entered the monument industry and offered us the versatility we were looking for.
The problem we encountered initially with our computer system was poor quality artwork. The designs included with our system had to be totally re-worked to clean up lines for proper cutting on the plotter. We decided we would be better off digitizing our own designs rather than trying to clean up someone else's work. Each of our designs was painstakingly digitized. Lines were checked and re-checked for the highest quality workmanship.
