The Coalition for Independence (CFI) was founded by Paul Levy in 1988, who was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in the mid-1960's. Through true compassion and dedication, Coalition for Independence's staff has empowered those with disabilities to live as independently and productively as possible in the mainstream of their communities. Coalition for Independence is a Center for Independent Living (CIL) as mandated by the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (1978 Reauthorization, Section VII), U.S. Department of Education. Coalition for Independence headquarters is located in Kansas City, Kansas, and a second office was opened in December 2007 in Kansas City, Missouri. Today Coalition for Independence continues to help individuals with disabilities live an independent and productive life. Serving over 3,000 individuals in the Kansas City Metropolitan Area, Coalition for Independence is the premier providers of independent living services in the area, helping individuals find "The Path to Living Independently."
