The objective for Copenhagen Environmental Capital of Europe is to generate awareness about Copenhagen and The Øresund Region as a leading European region abreast of environmental issues. Furthermore, Copenhagen Environmental Capital of Europe is working to enhance the continued growth of the environmental sector in the region.
The Øresund Region is outstanding as, along with a strong economic development in recent years, a balance between growth and environmental concerns has been created. Copenhagen Environmental Capital of Europe has since June 1999 aimed at highlighting and promoting the large number of environmentally orientated initiatives in the region.
In close collaboration with local businesses, organisations and municipalities, the secretariat has created a new internationally orientated marketing platform for Copenhagen and the Øresund Region. This has been done with regards to environmental issues, as environmental awareness is a primary force in the region, which makes it stand out internationally.
