C.C. Saint-Clair - Writer of Erotic Lesbian Romance With a Penchant for Social Realism

Description

C.C. Saint-Clair - Social Realism & The Thinking Woman's Lesbian Romance Novelist

C.C. Saint-Clair, lesbian feminist writer currently living in Brisbane, Australia, was first published in 2001. Her debut novel, North and Left From Here[Take II], launched her as the 'undisputed mistress of the sensual lesbian storyline' and the Alex Delaforet series. Though the sensuality of her writing appeals beyond label boundaries, her work quickly attracted the tag of ‘the thinking woman’s lesbian romance’. C.C. Saint-Clair went on to writing another six novels. It is common knowledge that thought North and Left, Benchmarks and Silent Goodbyes are inspired by real-life moments, they cannot be construed as auto-biographical, though the main characters, Alex and Emilie seem to draw much from C.C.’s personal traits and life challenges. Benchmarks and Silent Goodbyes, though initially published as paperbacks, are currently only available in a series of serialized ebooklets. C.C. turned a new page when she embarked on her fourth book, Risking-me, one of the first quality romance novels to flag the issue of same-gender domestic violence in an attempt to break the code of silence that still prevails on the lesbian scene. C.C. Saint-clair has written the screenplay adaptation of two of her novels, Far From Maddy and Morgan in the Mirror, both set in Brisbane. C.C. Saint-Clair's genre is GLBT, but what her fans appreciates is how vividly she portrays human emotion and need. Her screenplays adaptation have been recognized GLBT international screenplay competitions as well as in mainstream ones. Morgan in the Mirror, her most recent novels is “a sensitive and thought-provoking narrative on the experience of a young engineering student who also happens to be a female to male transgender. C.C. skillfully blends the factual reality with sensuality, creating a fascination insight into the way Morgan lives his life. A point to note about Morgan in the Mirror is that it was published in 2003, at a time that pre-dates the current awareness of the FTM station on the gender continuum, and as such is considered as a pioneer novel. This book has been compared to The Well of Loneliness by those who claim that Radclyffe Hall’s Stephen was in all likelihood grappling with gender dysphoria. Because C.C. is not a part of the wider TG community, though she has garnered the support of many high profile pillars of that community, others, forums users, have flamed her for having dared write intimately about circumstances she had not experienced herself. “Saint-Clair does not preach or justify and at times along the way her storytelling is uncomfortably brutal. The dialogue between the characters of this novel is often confronting. Morgan in the Miror is not largely for readers who choose to live, eat, breathe and read in the mainstream, but for those who dare to explore.” Jane Clinton Fynes. C.C. Saint-Clair’s books do not seem well distributed in traditional bookstores, but they are available on Amazon.com along with some of her new short stories. The Whip Hand is a sexy tale that looks at BDSM.

C.C. Saint of Lesbian Fiction

CC Saint-Clair is a prolific writer of lesbian erotica based in Brisbane. However, her writing seems to transcend genre as she tackles complex, yet very human subjects of love, sexuality, gender and abuse. Morgan in the Mirror, for example, is a sensitive, thought-provoking narrative on the experience of a young engineering student, who also happens to be a female to male transgender. She skilfully blends the factual reality with sensuality, creating a fascinating insight into the way Morgan lives his life. Meanwhile in 2003’s Far From Maddy, Saint-Clair tells the story of Jo, who survived a childhood of parental neglect and abuse and her loneliness when her sister left home. As a young woman, Jo’s interactions with her lover Maddy are forever strained because of her fear of intimacy and inability to trust, leading to Maddy’s heartache over Jo’s disappearance. In Jagged Dreams, the subject of incest is handled with intelligence and compassion. All the books are set in Brisbane and man.
