CBBR is the leading provider of credit reporting information in the state of Louisiana. We are a member owned organization founded in 1923 as the Credit Bureau of Baton Rouge, Inc. Our mission, then as it is today, is to facilitate commerce between business and consumers. What has changed since that time is that we now not only serve consumers and businesses in the Baton Rouge area but in 57 of the 64 Louisiana parishes making CBBR Equifax's largest partner in Louisiana. Equifax is one of the three major credit reporting networks in North America.
Through this affiliation, everyday we help bring tens of thousands of consumers and businesses together in Louisiana. Whether its credit for a new home, automobile, education, credit card or more, our services are essential for the convenience of consumers and businesses alike. Like consumers, we are cognizant of the need to protect consumer privacy while balancing the public's desire for speed and convenience whenever they seek needed credit. It's a responsibility and trust that we take very seriously.
At CBBR, you will also find that we work aggressively to promote "personal financial literacy" as we are the largest sponsor of educational programs for the public relating to the personal financial lifecycle. We are a member of the Jump$tart coalition that is working to bring needed resources and educational programs to assist educators in improving the personal financial knowledge of every Louisiana student. And we are an active sponsor of legislation to help protect consumers with issues such as identity theft and fraud. If someone unfortunately falls victim to such a crime, CBBR personnel can provide needed assistance.
