Title

Brampton Spirit - Catch It! Events in the City of Brampton

Description

Settlement here started in 1843. Mr. John Elliott, a Primitive Methodist from Brampton, Cumbria, England was one of the first to arrive. In 1853 Brampton was incorporated as a village, paving the way for thousands to follow.

Brampton has historically been known as the "Flowertown of Canada". Our reputation as a flower-growing centre was well earned. For much of Brampton's history, hundreds of acres of land were filled with greenhouses growing prize orchids, famous roses and many other quality flowers.

Brampton has also been fortunate to have many rivers and lakes to enjoy. The Credit and the West Humber Rivers flow through Brampton, very attractive to early settlers. Lakes such as Heart Lake, Professor's Lake, and Loafer's Lake have provided popular leisure activities for both visitors to Brampton and its residents.
