Past - This beautiful complex of 3 man-made lakes and 2 stock ponds was constructed in 1972 by a local farmer and his son. When the lakes were completed they planted an abundance of trees and shrubs. Next came the fish. Stocked between 1975 and 1981, with a mixture of species including pike, perch, roach, bream and of course carp, both commons and mirrors. During the last 25 years these lakes have been cared for lovingly by the local retired vice mayor, and have only been fished by himself and close family members. Since then, the fish and their surroundings have grown and matured virtually undisturbed. Not only is this a beautiful tranquil setting but the surrounding countryside holds much history and many interesting sights, featuring battlefields of two World Wars, abbeys, cathedrals and castles.
In the Summer of 2001 I was fortunate enough to purchase this complex. Work commenced almost immediately on the main lake by the removal of many snags and the start of building only 12 swims on over 20 acres of water. In August the first anglers arrived and the first of the Jurassica carp were banked. These ranged in size from 8lbs to over 40lbs. The fishing, at times, was fast and furious as most of these fish had never been hooked before. We removed over a 150 common carp below 15lbs from the main lake, Jurassica, and these were restocked into Heaven, the 3 acre lake on the complex. These fish are currently being grown on. Out of Eden, the 4 acre lake, came my first surprise, a mirror of over 39lbs. We have also had many other fish from Eden and Heaven over 30lbs that have been restocked into Jurassica. I intend to add to the already large population of all 3 lakes some quality fish, not only in their size but appearance too.
Future - Future plans include building a Members Club House which will incorporate a lounge/bar with Satellite TV , (England may be in the Euro Cup final !), snack bar and new toilet and shower area with drying room. Also in the Club House will be a tackle shop where anglers will be able to purchase bait and tackle at discounted prices. Finally,we plan to site a holiday home on Eden and Heaven allowing up to 4 members exclusive fishing and accommodation to that lake.
