Description
HEATING: When temperatures reach below a certain set point, the computer activates the circulating pumps. Hot water heat circulated through steel pipe in center of bench. Water temperature usually kept at 170 degrees F. There are two heating zones each with its own separate pump. There is a separate pump and valves to be used as back up system if needed. As the cooled water is recycled back through the boilers, the two Kewanee 80 HP boilers are activated and heats it back to 170 degrees F.. (Boilers are fueled by #2 heating oil as the primary fuel and natural gas as a secondary fuel.)
COOLING: Five stages of fans sequenced to activate on temperature increases in greenhouse. Also, in conjunction with the fans, the vent continues to open as more stages of fans are activated. During evening, the fans and vent reverse sequence as temperature cools. A built in feature of the Priva computer is that it allows fans to be shut off on time verses temperature requirement. In the summer evenings it saves energy because the sun heating power is no longer full strength.
SHADE AND ENERGY HEAT RETENTION CURTAIN: Curtain is programmed to open at daylight and to close at sunset. (Curtain is manually closed during day when temperatures inside greenhouse reaches 85 degrees F. The energy savings when curtain is closed at night is about 25 percent)
