About Carlbrook School
Located in Virginia, Carlbrook School is a college-preparatory institution devoted to nurturing gifted students who may have encountered academic or social difficulties in the past. Carlbrook School features intimate classes, a 2-to-1 student-faculty ratio, and a demanding academic culture.
Carlbrook School takes its name from the Carlbrook plantation property on which it is situated. The campus features more than 200 acres, offering grand wooded views as well as streams, a pond, and a waterfall dam. The plantation’s original mansion contains offices for the administration and also houses the library.
Carlbrook is set in the charming historical town of Halifax, but it is also a short drive to larger metropolitan areas, such as Richmond, Washington D.C. and Charlotte. The region also has some of the finest colleges in the United States, including Duke University and the University of Virginia.
Graduates of Carlbrook have gone on to receive undergraduate degrees from many highly regarded institutions. Roughly a quarter of the alumni have earned advanced degrees.
