Name derived from Uganik Island and published as "M(ys) Uganik" or "Cape Uganik" by Captain Tebenkov (1852, map 23). Called East Point in 1897 by Lieutenant Commander Moser, U.S. Navy (USN), of U.S. Bureau of Fisheries (USBF) steamer Albatross.
