Canyon Creek Cabinet Company was recently presented with two awards in recognition of their 2006 lean and environmental implementation plan to help reduce energy consumption and impact upon the environment. Canyon Creek has a long history of being an environmental leader in the wood products manufacturing industry and has been addressing environmental issues in their business practices since 1990. In 1999, Canyon Creek was awarded the prestigious Governor's Award for Outstanding Pollution Prevention.
The Washington State Department of Ecology presented Canyon Creek with their Award of Excellence in the following areas: hazardous waste and toxics reduction and the integration of environmental factors into a lean implementation plan. The pilot project involved Canyon Creek's partnership with the State Department of Ecology and Washington Manufacturing Services to evaluate the benefits and synergies of waste reduction, pollution prevention and lean practices.
The Pacific Northwest Pollution Prevention Resource Center has also recognized Canyon Creek for its lean and environmental implementation plan with its “Gotcha! Caught in the P2 Act!” award for notable pollution prevention achievement. The pollution prevention (P2) involves the reduction or elimination of waste at the source by the modification of production processes, and the use of non- or less-toxic substances and resource conservation. Canyon Creek's participation in the Ecology/WMS Lean and Environment project yielded numerous P2 improvements.
