The co-creators and co-artists of Canvas Creations admired "oyled cloths" in museums in Europe a few years ago and were amazed that centuries old pieces remained intact, with the pattern and colors still vivid. Both have studied art at different periods of their lives. Gaetan took Commercial Art Courses as a young artist. He has incredible patience and does all the treatment and preparation of the canvas, as well as the sealing and finishing process. He is the creator of the geometric and abstract imagery. Cecile has an incredible eye for detail and color composition. She took painting classes later on in life, to fill a void after the children left home. The fruits, florals and landscapes are her work. Each canvas illustrates the personal touch of both artisans. Together they love to design, apply background color and technique and hand paint new patterns. They accept commissions and have created some unique authentic designs to suit the decorating needs of their clients.
Le Mat Canvas Creations are characterized by pliability, durability and flatness. The artisans experimented for many years in developing the treatment and process that distinguishes the high quality of their creations. The first canvas carpet they made was for a gift to their daughter who could not use fiber carpets because of allergies and asthma. Now Le Mat Canvas Creations are in homes throughout Canada, the USA, the UK and Europe. Canvas ready prepped for painting is available for those who want to paint their own projects.
