Title
Nabby Day Camp
Description
Camp Nabby was established in 1940 by Abraham and Marie Nabatoff. The camp had a capacity of 125 campers. The camp was run by Mr. and Mrs. Nabatoff until Abraham’s death in 1969.
Then the Alfus and Bertino families purchased Camp Nabby. The Bertino family has been running Camp Nabby since 1970. Frank and Florence (Flo) Bertino were instrumental in making Camp Nabby what it is today. The Bertinos purchased adjacent land, built additional buildings and pools, and increased the enrollment to 400+ campers. (This number is the ideal number of campers for our facility and we do not intend to increase enrollment beyond our current capacity.)
Frank Bertino practiced his beliefs of an active, well-rounded, well-supervised program. For 40 years Frank was an athletic director and football coach at the Riverdale Country School in New York City, where he amassed 247 wins, 17 undefeated seasons, and was three times named The Daily News “Coach of the Year”. Frank was the inaugural director of the Riverdale Day Camp which he ran for ten years.
