Caleuche takes its name from a legend that originates in the fishing villages of the archipelago of southern Chile. The Ghost Ship, El Caleuche, is said to sometimes appear to sailors in the middle of a raging storm, glowing with an eerie white light, and creating a momentary calm. Any sailor who sees El Caleuche knows that he is doomed either to a watery grave or to an eternity of service on the crew of the Ghost Ship.
We chose the name Caleuche not because there is any logical connection between The Ghost Ship and the above mentioned language services. We just like the name and the story that goes with it (see the Legend of Caleuche), and we think that it represents the richness and fun of the Spanish language and Spanish and Latin American culture.
